Camera 1 rolling...and...ACTION!

I had a helmet camera set up (from one of those "helmet camera dot com" places) that I purchased just before a trip to Sedona and Phoenix Arizona in March of '01. Every year since then, I've been toting a video camera / helmet camera (in various lens and camera configs on an evolutionary path all their own) with me on every MTB vacation (usually a week in late spring and a week in the fall). I have a lot of great footage from these trips showing the best of the best trails of locations such as Tucson, Phoenix, Oracle, Summerhaven, Aspen, Grand Junction, Fruita, Durango, Crested Butte, Auburn, Truckee, Lake Tahoe, Downieville and Grass Valley. I also have quite a bit of local (Austin area) trail footage. The computer systems that I've been using to produce the videos have also been on an evolutionary path all their own. Right now, I have a kickbutt (by 2007 standards) system - an AMD Dual Core w/ 2Gig of RAM that's running some descent software (Adobe Premiere) and I have continued kickin' out home videos. BTW - I've learned a lot about videography and I continue to learn more and I share some lessons, tips and tricks in the "Video Tips" tab above.

Beware, I've had 2 of those helmet cameras "crap out" on me. One went completely dead in the beginning of a ride and the other started "ghosting" shadow lines vertically through the image based on shadows and lighting. UgLy. Anyway, if you just have to have the bullet lens angle, I found a much better solution for quite a bit less money and that's what I'm using now. It's a higher resolution (520 lines) lens available through a company called SuperCircuits. Just wish I'd gone here prior to blowing so much money at the other place. Oh well.

I decided to create all the music for these videos so I didn't have to worry about copyright infringement or royalties. I have a pretty effective home studio that allows me to capture guitar and create some pretty cool music. It takes quite a bit of time to think up a song, lay down all the parts (keys, guitar, bass and drum tracks), but in the end, I feel good because I'm really a musician at heart and this is a great release.

Here's are some of my vids out on the web:
